Dante Mossi, the president of the Central American bank for economic integration (BCIE), has said that the BCIE has a US$1.91bn financial programme for Central America to address the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Mossi said that this had already begun with
an unprecedented US$8m donation for the eight Central American countries (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic) and a US$90m disbursement for two state-run banks Banco Nacional de Costa Rica (which received US$50m) and Banco de Costa Rica (US$40m) to provide assistance to Costa Rica's industrial, agricultural, and service sectors that are being affected by the pandemic.
