COLOMBIA: Danger escalates for social leaders

Human rights organisations, both within Colombia and internationally, have voiced concerns about the escalating risks faced by social leaders in the country. Colombia is frequently ranked as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for community leaders, human rights defenders, and environmentalists, and there are fears that a recent surge in assassinations could be further exacerbated by the nationwide quarantine called on 25 March in response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
