CHILE-ARGENTINA: A coronavirus competition

Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera appears to be sensitive to claims that Argentina’s left-of-centre government is handling the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic better than his right-of-centre government. In a speech announcing the extension of quarantine measures on 10 April, Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández showed a series of graphs representing infection and mortality rates, implying that his government’s efforts to contain the outbreak of the virus had met with more success than that of governments in neighbouring countries.
