CARIBBEAN: Paradise lost

Amid the current coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, a global economic recession seems inescapable. On 8 April, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (Carpha) put the number of official Covid-19 cases in the Caribbean at 4,016. Although the sub-region is suffering from relatively few cases of the disease in comparison to the rest of the world, the tourism-dependent economies of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) are likely to sustain amongst the most severe damage to their GDP in the world.
