In brief: Icefi warns of coronavirus impact on Central America

* The Central American institute for fiscal studies (Icefi), a Guatemala-based think-tank, has released its latest 2020 growth projections for Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama), which incorporate the possible impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Icefi forecasts that in the most optimistic scenario regional growth for 2020 could come in at 1.5%, while in the most pessimistic scenario, growth could contract by 4%. The report also notes that the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are forecasting growth for Central America to contract by 3.5% and 3% respectively.
