REGION: New reports highlight migrants’ plight

At the time of writing, the controversial Asylum Cooperation Agreements (ACAs) signed by US and (separately) El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras [SSR-20-01] had been effectively suspended as Central America’s ‘Northern Triangle’ countries closed their borders to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19). Ahead of this, however, two recent reports by international humanitarian NGOs Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Human Rights Watch (HRW) shed new light on the perilous conditions facing migrants affected by the hardline policy pursued by the US administration led by President Donald Trump.
