REGION: Covid-19 could overwhelm Caribbean’s health services

The Caribbean Community (Caricom) reported its first official case of coronavirus (Covid-19) on 10 March in Jamaica, 55 days after the announcement of the first case in the US, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a US federal agency. While forewarning enabled Caricom to be proactive in preparing for the Coronavirus, the health services of Caricom member states are ill-equipped to cope with a disease of magnitude.
