In brief: Gov’t tax revenue falls in Brazil

* Brazil’s Receita Federal tax authority has reported that federal authorities collected R$101.1bn (US$18.2bn) in revenue in April, of which R$93.3bn were taxes and contributions directly managed by the Receita Federal. This represents a 28.95% fall in real terms on the revenue collected at federal level in April 2019. In the four months to April 2020, federal authorities collected R$502.2bn in revenue, a 7.5% decrease on tax and other revenues over the same period in 2019. The Receita Federal says these results were “quite influenced” by the measures taken in the face of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which included the delay of certain types of tax payments.
