Fears rise over measles outbreak

In the shadow of the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, another public health threat has been spreading alarm amongst Mexico’s health authorities. Health ministry figures published on 1 May revealed that 163 cases of measles had been confirmed in Mexico this year, nearly equalling its total number of cases over the previous two decades. Of these 163, over 80% (133) have no record of having had a measles vaccination, serving to highlight an urgent challenge for healthcare workers: getting the necessary vaccine out there amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
