CUBA: Activation of Title III of Helms-Burton Act - one year on

Last month marked a year since US President Donald Trump ended the rolling suspension of Title III of the 1996 Helms-Burton (Libertad) Act for the first time in over two decades. Title III allows US nationals, including naturalised Cubans, to sue companies and subsidiaries in Cuba believed to be using properties expropriated after the Cuban Revolution of 1959. Here, we consider the impact of the “full and complete embargo” enacted by Trump on 2 May.
