In a 10 July interview with US television channel Telemundo, US President Donald Trump commented that “something will be happening with Venezuela”, and that the US will “be very much involved”. Trump has rarely not been involved in Venezuelan politics in recent years, but such vague commitments have repeatedly frustrated US allies in the country. His comment that opposition leader Juan Guaidó “seems to be losing a certain power” will ring further alarm bells.
