Another security shock
The cold-blooded murder of three marines on 31 May shocked Uruguay. Although a suspect was rapidly arrested and charged with the triple homicide, the episode adds to a growing number of violent incidents against law enforcement officials and security forces in Uruguay, strengthening the resolve of the government led by President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou to adopt a tougher stance on crime.
