COLOMBIA: Duque stands by security strategy

Compared with many of his regional peers, Colombia’s President Iván Duque has shown himself to be relatively capable – and crucially, ideologically flexible – in the face of the coronavirus (Covid-19) health emergency. This stands in stark contrast to his response to Colombia’s security crisis, a far more long-running emergency, to which Duque’s strategy has been to ignore his critics, and double down on pushing hard-line military solutions to the growing instability in much of the country.
