REGION: Finding a way forward for the Caribbean

Apart from Haiti, for which fate seldom has a kind gesture, in terms of health the Caribbean has been relatively untouched by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. As detailed last month [EB-20-07], the same cannot be said about the economies of the Caribbean, in particular those of the small tourism-dependent countries. The latest forecast from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) says that the economy of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) will contract by between 10% and 20% in 2020, and debt is once again becoming a major concern.
