The region’s largest economy has failed to bring its coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak under control – it passed the grim milestone of 3m cases and 100,000 deaths in early August, with the infection curve still on a steep upwards trend. However, the severity of its Covid-19 epidemic makes Brazil a location of choice for running trials of vaccine candidates, thus putting the country in a strategic position to produce a Covid-19 vaccine.
