This time last year, President Jair Bolsonaro was facing international recriminations over his dismissive response to fires in the Brazilian Amazon. Manmade wildfires have torn through the world’s largest rainforest again this year, but it is the destruction of another biome that is attracting growing concern: the Pantanal wetlands.
