HONDURAS: Hernández faces fresh protests over pandemic response

This week Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández faced nationwide blockades from transport workers, protesting over the lack of subsidies or support to alleviate the impact of measures taken to stop the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). While some agreements have since been reached, the challenge to the government comes as it continues to face more general discontent over its response to the pandemic - in particular the corruption allegations surrounding the disbursement of funds. These have already forced the resignation of Marcos Bográn, the head of Inversión Estratégica de Honduras (Invest-H), the government agency which manages the purchase of health equipment to combat the pandemic [WR-20-26].
