In brief: Brazil’s economic activity sees positive variation in July

*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures for the monthly index of economic activity (IBC-Br), a proxy of GDP growth, which show economic activity grew by 2.5% in July compared to June. This marks the third consecutive month of positive results since the steep falls in March and April which resulted from the measures taken to contain the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Year-on-year, the IBC-Br contracted by 4.89% in July, while economic activity has accumulated a contraction of 5.77% so far in 2020.
