CHILE: Bombers appear to be raising the threat level

A bomb detonated at a hotel in Santiago's affluent Las Condes district caused more than usual alarm because it appeared to signal a break from the dominant pattern of anarchist bombings. Instead of being timed to minimise the risk of casualties, the device exploded shortly after midday. Also worrying was what police sources described as the 'professional' confection of the device.
