Challenge of ensuring transparent electoral campaigning begins

Mexico’s federal midterm legislative and state elections may still be a year away, but social media platforms are already taking steps to ensure that the campaigning leading up to these is as transparent and fair as possible. The US-based social media platform, Facebook, has announced that since the start of August any electoral campaign advertisement for the 2021 elections in Mexico will be subject to more rigorous controls and it will provide detailed information about who is behind the advertisements that are posted.
