BELIZE: PUP looking to break UDP’s three-term winning streak

Covid-19 permitting, Belize will hold a general election in early November, almost exactly five years after the last general election, held on 4 November 2015, when the centre-right United Democratic Party (UDP) under Prime Minister Dean Barrow defeated the centre-left People’s United Party (PUP) by 19-12 seats in the 31-seat House of Representatives. This time, however, the background to the election could hardly be more different.
