Economic recovery. Peru could be on for “a new historic record” for agro-exports in 2020 “in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic”, according to a statement released by the foreign trade ministry on 11 October. Agro-exports increased by 15.9% year-on-year in August to US$664m, meaning that the previous annual record of US$7.08bn set in 2019 was on course to be broken, the ministry reported. Sales of blueberries surged by 44% to US$112m and avocados by 39% to US$114m. Overall exports, however, were down by 19% year-on-year in August to US$3.02bn, and by 23.4% (US$22.97bn) over the first eight months of the year.
