PERU: Government reports successes against Sendero
The Peruvian government has begun to report
successes against the Sendero Luminoso (SL) guerrillas' largest unit, in the
area of the Apurímac-Ene valley. Interior minister Octavio Salazar has gone to
the area to encourage people to take up the rewards for the capture of SL
leaders. In the Upper Huallaga area, the SL leader has announced a suspension of
hostilities and called for talks
