TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Trinidad looks to the future

The government of Trinidad & Tobago has been taking a long, hard look at the shape of the country’s economy and how it can best recover from the depredations of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which it says has “laid bare several weaknesses of the economy and society”. The second part of its ‘Roadmap for Trinidad and Tobago’ was released in late September. The first part, published in July, concentrated on the immediate response; the second part looks at medium- and long-term measures. It is nothing if not ambitious. As the report says, the legacy of Covid-19 for Trinidad & Tobago “must be a new economy and a new society”.
