REGION: Contrasting results for incumbent parties

After a spate of elections elsewhere in the Anglophone Caribbean in recent months, this week was the turn of St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Belize. They produced different outcomes. Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves won re-election in St Vincent and the Grenadines on 5 November, securing a record-breaking fifth straight term in office, with an increased majority for his left-wing Unity Labour Party (ULP). In Belize, Prime Minister Dean Barrow stepped down after three consecutive terms in power, but Patrick Faber was unable to win a fourth straight term for the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) on 11 November.
