BRAZIL: The return of the establishment

Brazil held the first round of its municipal elections on 15 November. Although 57 major cities – including 18 state capitals – are still to choose their mayor in a second round of voting scheduled for 29 November, the results in the rest of the country have been interpreted as a blow to President Jair Bolsonaro and a vote of confidence for centre-right establishment parties, some of which were crushed in the general election of 2018.
