Syndemic concerns multiply

Concerns that Mexico may soon be facing a syndemic - the aggregation of two or more concurrent epidemics that can interact with each other to worsen the public health scenario - have risen considerably following the confirmation of the first cases of patients infected with coronavirus (Covid-19) and other viral diseases. Since the arrival of Covid-19 in Mexico, there have been concerns that it could interact with deadly endemic and seasonal diseases to produce an even more complicated public health situation in the country. With the Mexican authorities still struggling to contain the Covid-19 outbreak and winter approaching, a syndemic appears to be developing. The fear is that this could produce many more deaths unless the authorities develop a strategy for addressing it.
