CHILE: No end in sight to public protests

Chile held its much-anticipated plebiscite on the rewriting of the country’s constitution on 25 October, in which the ‘apruebo’ vote in favour of replacing the dictatorship-era constitution won with a resounding 78% of the vote. Although hailed as a historic step for the country, the outcome of the referendum has not, as some might have hoped, brought an end to the frequent demonstrations and social unrest.
