BOLIVIA: Arce sets out economic objectives

Almost a year after Bolivia’s former president, Evo Morales (2006-2019), was forced to resign, the left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) returned to power in November, following Luis Arce’s decisive electoral victory the previous month. The new president had served as Morales’ economy minister for almost the entirety of his rule (the exception being a 19-month break to battle kidney cancer between 2017 and 2019), and Arce’s election has prompted considerable speculation as to whether his economic policies will change now that he has taken the top job.
