In brief: Industrial production continues to recover in Mexico

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new figures which show industrial production in Mexico rose in October 2020 by 2% in seasonally-adjusted terms compared with the previous month. As regards a sector breakdown, construction was up 3.6% compared with the previous month, utilities (transmission and distribution of electricity, supply of water and gas) was up 1.8%, and mining output was up 1%. In year-on-year terms, production was down 3.1% in November due to the impact of measures taken to stop the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), although this was the smallest decline since the pandemic struck in March. As regards a sector breakdown, construction was down 9.7% year-on-year in November, transmission and distribution of electricity, supply of water and gas down 4.3%, and mining down 1.1%.
