Mexico’s congress approves judicial reform; puts bank reform on ice

Two reforms, impactful and contentious in equal measure, went before Mexico’s congress this week. One, the most significant judicial reform to be tabled in a generation, was approved. A decisive vote on the other, a banking reform, which was savaged by the central bank (Banxico), private banks, the political opposition, and even the finance minister for the damage it would inflict on Mexico’s financial system, was held up, and looks like going back to the drawing board.
