In brief: Unemployment rises in Argentina

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released new figures which show that national unemployment in the third quarter of 2020 totalled 11.7%. This is higher than the 9.7% unemployment rate registered in the third quarter of 2019, but an improvement on the 13.1% registered in the second quarter of 2020, as a result of measures imposed to try and contain the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The second quarter rate was the highest since Q3 2004, when the country was recovering from one of the worst economic, political, and social crises in its history.
