In brief: Argentina’s economy ministry hails primary fiscal deficit figures

* Argentina has recorded a primary fiscal deficit in November of Ar$58.69bn (US$706m) - the lowest level since the start of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, according to the country’s economy ministry. A 32% year-on-year jump in tax revenues in November was the key driver, which the ministry attributed to improved economic activity in the domestic market. Primary expenditure increased by 40.5% year-on-year to Ar$527.1bn, representing the smallest increase of the year, even compared with pre-pandemic levels. According to the ministry, the latest figures show progress in fiscal sustainability, and will support spending to protect families, employment, and production.
