PARAGUAY: Dodgy dealings at Petropar haunt government

The revelations about dubious dealings involving Paraguay’s state-owned oil firm (Petropar) forced the resignation of a senior Paraguayan government official over the Christmas period. With another scandal involving Petropar emerging in the New Year, corruption at the oil firm appears to be a recurrent problem for the government led by President Mario Abdo Benítez. The situation puts Abdo Benítez under pressure to take decisive action to resolve the issue once and for all.
