GUATEMALA: Figures show murder & kidnapping in decline

The spike in violence in July and the spectacular nature of the grenade attacks on buses in the capital [SSR-10-07] diverted attention from a significant development on the public security front: that murders and reported kidnappings had declined in the first half of the year. Also, two months after the change at the helm of Cicig, the detection of a criminal network in the upper echelons of the past administration has come to light.
