In brief: Colombia reports reduced tax take in 2020

* Colombia’s national tax authority (Dian) has reported that the tax take in 2020 totalled Col$146.2trn (US$42bn), falling short of the initial target of Col$164.5trn, but exceeding the adjusted target of Col$136.4trn, introduced following the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The tax take decreased by 7.4% year-on-year, down from Col$157.9trn in 2019. However, Dian director José Andrés Romero argued that this represented a strong performance in a difficult year, suggesting that the recovery of the tax take figures as the year went on indicates that further improvements can be expected in 2021.
