* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest forecast for the 2021 agricultural harvest, according to which it expects this year’s harvest of grains, cereals, legumes, and oilseeds to total 260.5m tonnes (t), a 2.5% increase on the 2020 harvest. Estimates for last year’s harvest point to a record 254.1m t, a 5.2% increase on the 2019 yield which is now expected to be surpassed this year. Brazil’s agriculture ministry (Mapa) has separately announced that the country’s agricultural exports totalled US$100.81bn in 2020, the second highest value recorded. Soya and its derivatives was the main agricultural export, with over 101m t of soya grain, oil, and bran exported last year, for a total value of US$35.24bn.
