In brief: New gov’t report upbeat on Argentina’s industrial activity

* According to a new report by the centre for production studies (CEPXXI), which is part of Argentina’s productive development ministry, industrial activity is showing continued signs of recovery. According to the report the indicators for industrial activity show an increase of 6.1% year-on-year in December 2020, driven by “a clear improvement in the steel industry, metalworking, and the car industry”. The report adds that the industrial sector not only recovered losses which resulted from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, but began to operate above pre-Covid-19 levels, with a rapid impact on formal jobs in the sector. It claims that in October 2020, there were 4,500 more jobs than in February while employment in the sector increased for the fifth consecutive month, “something which had not happened since 2015”.
