ARGENTINA: Political temperature rises in electoral year

Argentina’s political opposition has moved on various fronts to take the government to task as it prepares for the start of campaigning for October’s midterm elections. These moves are ratcheting up tensions between the government and the opposition. The approaching electoral contest is also starting to produce tensions between the government headed by President Alberto Fernández and other leaders within the ruling Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronists). This charged political atmosphere could prove difficult for the Fernández administration to navigate.
