MEXICO: Mexican airlines at risk of collapse

Employees of Mexican carrier Interjet went on strike after months of seeking solutions to their demands in early January. A statement issued by their union said that the company owed them four months of salary and other benefits, as well as Christmas bonuses. Interjet also owes almost six months of contributions to personnel’s pensions for 2020 and has debts of US$131.3m in unpaid fuel bills and US$151.4m in unpaid taxes. The company owes income and sales taxes dating back to 2013, a debt that the Mexican tax authority (SAT) has refused to restructure.
