In brief: Bolivia approves CAF loan

* Bolivia’s legislative assembly has voted to approve a US$350m loan from the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), intended to support the country’s response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The loan had been agreed back in June 2020 under Bolivia’s interim government led by Jeanine Áñez (2019-2020), but had failed to secure legislative approval, with the stalemate attributed by the assembly to a lack of transparency regarding the terms of the deal. Current planning minister, Felima Gabriela Mendoza, appeared in front of the legislature to explain the scope and objectives of the agreement, after which both chambers voted to approve the credit line.
