In brief: Panama reopens land borders

* The Panamanian government led by President Laurentino Cortizo has reopened the country’s land borders for nationals, residents, and international travellers, with a requirement of a negative coronavirus (Covid-19) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or antigen test taken within 48 hours before entering the country. The country’s land borders had been closed since March 2020 as part of measures to stop the spread of Covid-19, which has left Panama with the highest number of infections in Central America (320,379 as of 31 January). Panama reopened its borders for commercial international aviation and tourism back in October 2020.
