In brief: Peru reports surge in inflation

* Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has released the country’s inflation figures for January, according to which monthly inflation reached 0.74% (the highest monthly figure since March 2017), up from 0.05% in January 2020. This brings annual inflation to 2.68%, up from 1.97% the previous month, and closer to exceeding the 1%-3% target set by Peru’s central bank (BCRP). The BCRP attributed the surge to increased prices of food and drink, fuel, and property rentals.
