PERU: Presidential hopeful marred by scandal

One of the frontrunners in Peru’s presidential race, charged with murder, was embroiled in scandal this week when evidence emerged of witness tampering in the case. Daniel Urresti, a retired army general who is in touching distance of second place in opinion polls and a berth in a likely second round run-off, is charged with ordering the murder of a journalist in 1988.
