BOLIVIA: President beset by protests

The government led by President Luis Arce is facing major protests from both medical workers and soybean producers. A strike in the health sector would be problematic at the best of times but in the midst of the most serious pandemic in the last century it has taken on a far more pressing significance. Meanwhile, producers of soybeans, the main cash crop in Bolivia, are blocking roads in the east of the country and staging protests against price controls they insist are unfair and unrealistic.
