In brief: Argentina’s car production down in February

* The Argentine association of automobile manufacturers (Adefa) has released new figures which show Argentina produced 21,809 vehicles in February 2021, 10.3% less than in January and 16.5% less than that registered in February 2020. However, Adefa's figures show that the sector exported 15,055 vehicles in February, up 26.3% on January although this was 16.9% less than in February 2020. A press release by Adefa highlights, however, that in February, there were six days less of activity than the same month in 2020 and car production at four companies was suspended due to the summer holidays. It also notes that in the first two months, accumulated production was 46,117 vehicles, 1.5% less than in the same period in 2020. The statement cites Adefa president, Daniel Herrero, as saying that taking into account inactivity due to the holidays, “we are seeing production, sales and exports similar to in the first two months of 2020, that is to say, we have already recovered to pre-[coronavirus] pandemic levels and expect further improvement this year”.
