ECUADOR: 'Coup' inquiry extended; police overhaul ordered

The investigation into the September police mutiny has been extended for another month in order to consider charges against more suspects of having been behind what the government has been portraying as an attempted coup d'état. In the meantime, President Rafael Correa has issued a decree ending the relative autonomy of the national police and placing it under the direct control of the interior ministry.
