MEXICO: Herbicide and GM maize ban meet with mixed reception

The Mexican government has approved a proposal to ban the use of glyphosate, a herbicide, and genetically modified (GM) maize, by 2024. While this has received praise from activists citing health and environmental risks, some in the agricultural industry have deplored the ban, warning of reduced yields, decimated supply chains and slim hopes for Mexican farmers in an increasingly competitive market.
