In brief: Chile’s INE highlights pandemic impact on gender and employment

* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released a new report which shows that during the peak of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic (May-July 2020), there was a 593% rise in the number of women unable to seek paid employment due to being otherwise occupied with family care or domestic chores, compared with an average increase of 172% across both genders.
