In brief: Colombia’s imports slump in January

* Colombia’s national statistics institute (Dane) has released new figures which show that imports totalled US$3.6bn in January 2021, an 11.7% drop on the same month in 2020. According to Dane the slump owed mainly to a 11.8% drop in imports from the manufacturing sector. The same figures show exports in the first month of 2021 totalled US$2.6bn, leaving a trade deficit of US$1bn. Colombia closed 2020 with a trade deficit of just over US$10bn, with exports totalling US$31bn and imports totalling US$41.2bn.
